BERNEICE SCHULMAN

-

Berneice Schulman passed away peacefully at age 101 on January 8, 2017 in Santa Fe, NM. She moved to Santa Fe in 2004, and began working two days a week at Christus St. Vincent Hospital until a few years ago. Her various “pink lady” jobs included as a receptionist and as an ambassador of good will who encouraged patients to have courage and heart, saying, “If I can make it with all my operations at my age, you will too.” She was known as “Miss Bee” at the hospital and in her very long career in women’s apparel. Born in Chicago in 1915, Bee began working in the retail business at age six in her parent’s store, standing on an orange crate to wait on customers. When she married her husband, Leonard, they owned and managed a women’s apparel store in Chicago until 1976 when they moved to Los Angeles. There, Bee joined the sales staff of Saks Fifth Avenue on Wilshire Blvd., where over a nearly twenty year career in ladies designer sportswear, she became the top sales person in the entire store. When not working, she volunteered at Cedars Sinai Hospital where she was honored by being named Volunteer of the Year. Eight years after her husband died, Bee moved to Santa Fe in 2004, moving into Quail Run for a while and then Brookdale and finally Mi Casa Bonita, an outstanding hospice facility. Bee was predeceased by her husband Leonard, her son Barry, and his son, Dayn Schulman. She is survived by her daughter Jerilyn Silver (David), her son Bruce Schulman (Sandy), her grandchildren Binyamina Schulman, Caleb Silver (Ana Luz) and Claude Silver as well as her great grandchildren Maya and Zoe Silver. Bee’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Rabbi Martin Levy, to Presbyterian Hospice Care, in particular to P.J., (our angel) and to the loving care givers at Mi Casa Bonita. Donations in Bees memory may be made to Congregation Beit Tikva as well as to Christus St. Vincent Auxiliary and to Presbyterian Hospice Care.
