Best-selling author to lead talk on bullying at UNM-Los Alamos
Author, consultant and parenting expert Barbara Coloroso will speak about bullying at an upcoming Parenting University workshop at The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos.
During her talk March 18 at the campus, Coloroso, who has written five best-sellers, will offer practical advice for breaking the cycle of violence and raising kids who treat others with dignity and respect, says a news release on the event.
Participants will learn about the characteristics of bullying, techniques for teaching kids how to deal with bullies, how to hold bullies accountable and how to parent children who are cybersavvy, cybercivil and cybersafe.
Coloroso has appeared on television and has been featured in The New York Times, Time, U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek and other national and international publications.
“We are really excited that Barbara is able to participate in Parenting University again, said Gabe Baca, the community education program manager for UNM-Los Alamos, in the news release. “Last spring, we had a full house for her presentation of ‘Parenting with Wit and Wisdom.’ Since then, we have received many requests to bring Barbara back for a session on bullying. We anticipate another large crowd and a morning packed with useful, compassionate information on this important topic.”
Parenting University programs, supported by the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, are free to the public.
The Ark Child Development Center will provide free child care during the workshop for children ages 6 months through preschool. Parents are encouraged to sign up no later than March 15 by calling 505-662-4822. Activities for older children also will be available during the workshop. Parents should call 505-662-0346 to register their children.
