Rita E. Romero, 75, was given her wings to go home on March 2, 2017, at her home in Pueblo, Co. surrounded by her family. She was born in Taos, NM on February 6, 1942 to Jose Manuel Valdez and Azucena Gonzales Valdez.

Rita grew up in Taos then moved to Santa Fe where she met her husband, Gilbert. She worked and raised her family with grace and perseveran­ce. She made many friends and was loved and admired by many. She worked as the manager for several years at Mr. R’s. where she was known as being a “tough little thing.” She found immense joy in her grandchild­ren, gardening, cooking and healing with her homemade remedies.

Rita is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gilbert A. Romero. Her children; Marie Wasserman, Carol Ortiz and husband George, Patricia Romero and partner Joe Falsetto, and Joseph Romero and partner Madalyn Montoya. She is also survived by her grandchild­ren; Leah Bobchak (Jeremy Cardona), Ezekiel Catanach (Marlene Rojo), Brittany Pruitt (Zakk), Sara Catanach (Dan MenchThurl­ow), Nathan Wasserman (Stephanie), Jeraden Romero, Jonovan Romero (Gabriella), Jacquelyn Romero, and Ariel Romero. Her great grandchild­ren; Brianna Pruitt, Konnor Pruitt, Avelino Wasserman, Norah Pruitt, Mason Catanach, Angelo Romero and Kaden Pruitt.Her siblings, Dollie Mondragon (Ted), Ray Valdez, Dickie Valdez (Aline), and Rosalie Romero; her brother in law, Robert Romero (Mela) and many nieces and nephews.

A celebratio­n of Rita’s life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Pueblo, CO, at Imperial Funeral Home.
