Mott on March 11 allegedly fired at least one shot from a .45-caliber handgun at an off-duty officer and his wife and three children as the family was passing the entrance to the Top of the World Farm.

Martinez said Mott had flagged down the officer and his family and claimed that law enforcement was involved in criminal activity in the area.

After Mott’s arrest, state police searched his residence and found firearms and spent shell casings that could match the weapon used in the confrontation.
