Terry Crews OF “BROOKLYN NINE-NINE” ON FOX
With “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” now returning after a hiatus of several months, how do you feel this season of the show has gone?
It’s incredible, man! Andre (Braugher) got nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award, and Andy (Samberg) got nominated for a People’s Choice Award, so it couldn’t be better. In the fourth season, we’ve been rolling like you would not believe. We don’t really have to second-guess anything anymore, you know what I mean? We just go for it, and we rock.
The show has set up certain annual traditions, such as a Halloween story and a Christmas-caroling competition. Do you still enjoy those?
Yeah, actually, Halloween has just gotten better and better every year. They’ve set up this world in the show where everyone expects certain things and everybody is really comfortable with them, and it’s really become where our fan base has grown worldwide. And now that we’re going to be syndicated (in repeats) on TBS and have new episodes on Fox, it’s double the fun.
You’ve had lots of opportunities in entertainment, including hosting shows and doing specials such as “Terry Crews Saves Christmas.” What do you chalk that up to?
This is the deal. One thing that I realized when I was a kid was that you were told, “OK, you can be anything you want to be.” Then you tell them what you want to do, and they suddenly turn around and say, “What makes you think you can do that?” And you’re like, “Wait a minute! You just said ... . ”
