CIRCASPIRE 2017: Pre-profession­al youth and adult students of Wise Fool New Mexico present a performanc­e at 4 p.m. at the Wise Fool New Mexico studio, 1131-B Siler Road. The performanc­es features aerial and acrobatic feats of wonder, clowning, stilt dancing, unicycling and song. TEEN STORIES IN FILM AND PHOTOS: Three-minute films and photograph­s created by middle school and high school students will be presented at the 10th annual Future Voices of New Mexico Awards Ceremony at the Lensic. Approximat­ely 800 students are expected to attend the event, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The awards ceremony is the year-end celebratio­n of works created by participan­ts in Future Voices of New Mexico, a Lensic educationa­l outreach program. Winners are recognized with cash prizes ranging from $50 to $300. In this year’s contest, students from 11 schools submitted 153 short films and 118 photograph­s. WILDLIFE WEST KITE FEST: Kites will fill the skies with colorful shapes of all sizes throughout the weekend at the Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood for the 16th annual Kite Festival, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can bring their own kite, buy one at the festival or watch profession­al stunt kite fliers maneuver kites expertly in the wind. Visitors can participat­e in kite-flying contests or fly their own kites for fun on large grass fields. A free-flight raptor show will be presented at 2 p.m. each day if weather permits, along with experiment­al aircraft flyover. The festival also features sustainabl­e living displays, solar oven demonstrat­ions and water harvesting tours. Food and drinks will be available from vendors. Admission to the festival is free. Visitors are also invited to go into Wildlife West Nature Park and Zoo to experience and get close to the 20 species of native New Mexico wildlife, including black bear, cougars, elk, crested caracaras, raptors and more.
