Movie: Monsters University Disney-Pixar’s 2013 prequel to the animated hit Monsters, Inc. revisits the amusing teamwork of Billy Crystal and John Goodman, cast again as the voices of Mike and Sulley, the creatures who meet at the title college. When their rivalry gets them booted out of school, they set out to make their way in the world together. Helen Mirren is a fine addition to a voice cast that also includes Steve Buscemi and Alfred Molina. The score is by Randy Newman.

7 p.m. on AMC, SUND

The Son In flashbacks to 1849, Young Eli (Jacob Lofland) knows a lot — including, possibly, his very life — is riding on his success when it comes to navigating complicate­d tribal politics. Moving to 1915, an unforeseen crisis forces Sally and Pete (Jess Weixler, Henry Garrett) to make a decision that probably will change the family forever in the new episode “Marriage Bond.”

Training Day The season-ending episode — which could prove to be the series-ending episode as well, particular­ly given the recent passing of star Bill Paxton — begins, as Part 1 of “Elegy” finds Kyle (Justin Cornwell) distressed to discover he’s been fed lies about his father’s death by Frank (Paxton). The resulting breach of trust between the police partners could put both their lives at risk.

Saturday Night Live Melissa McCarthy, pictured, has been no stranger to this program lately, having made several guest appearance­s as a certain White House press secretary — and expect her to reprise that role yet again as she returns as guest host of this new episode. It’s one of the show’s telecasts to be aired live in every time zone, so West Coast viewers will see what happens right when it unfolds on the East Coast. Haim is the musical guest.
