Truck stop will hurt Santa Fe businesses

-

As residents of Rancho Viejo, we are very concerned about the pollution, noise, congestion and crime that a truck stop will bring close to us (“Rancho Viejo residents oppose truck stop plans,” May 10). Many people may feel that it is far enough away from the rest of Santa Fe that they don’t have to be concerned.

We would like to make the point that of the 3,000 cars a day projected to stop there, many will bypass our established Cerrillos Road businesses and quickly return to the highway. It’s a big gain for an out-of-state corporation and a huge loss for small Santa Fe businesses. People who might have visited our unique downtown will now jump right back on the highway.
