As the school year comes to a close, I would like to give a shout-out to Santa Fe High School and the leadership under Principal Carl Marano. As the father of a 15-year-old freshman, I couldn’t be happier with the education our daughter has received thus far. Santa Fe High School has many choices for students, regardless of their interest in the general curriculum or Advanced Placement program, where they boast 19 different AP choices. Most importantly, the students at Santa Fe High have the support, caring, passion and energy from many innovative and dedicated teachers and counselors.

We looked at the options Santa Fe had for high schools when our daughter finished a great experience at El Dorado Community School. Quite frankly, I was thrilled she picked Santa Fe High School. She is now the third-generation member of our family to attend Santa Fe High, and yes, I, too, am a proud Demon!

We have heard some stories and rumors about the school that paint a different picture than the positive and safe learning environment we have seen from Santa Fe’s oldest public high school. The high school is divided into learning academies that allow students to follow their own individual passions and educational dreams. If your student so chooses, there is a college-bound culture to tap into where each student can obtain real-world skills and learning. This includes access to dual-credit classes where students can attend the Santa Fe Community College and get high school as well as college credit.

Santa Fe High School’s drama and music programs are fantastic; and whether it’s theater, band, orchestra or choir, students have access to a nice performance space and music teachers that go the extra mile to help develop each student’s individual talents. Santa Fe High’s athletic program also offers variety for the sports-minded exercise enthusiast that includes safe and wellkept modern facilities. Our City Different is fortunate to have many more options today than I had for high school education, and although Santa Fe High School is just one of those choices, I hope parents and students deciding where to go will check it out.
