Trump puts NATO relations at grave risk

-

President Donald Trump already has seriously compromised our relationships with Israel and the U.K. by leaking secret intelligence shared with us. It’s only a matter of time before he alienates the remainder of our NATO allies to the point that the U.S. is left out in the cold in terms of gaining critical intelligence that will enhance our efforts toward thwarting terrorism on American soil. Trump’s main campaign promise already is backfiring on him. How much longer will Congress, turn its back on its constituencies for fear of being thrown out of office in 2018? The longer it continues, the greater this will become a fait accompli. As for the president, the greatest service he could provide the country is to have his jaw wired shut. Lee Lefton Santa Fe

Negative at best

Thank you, James Barron for your wonderful timing (“Make most of Fuego; they might not be here for long,” May 24). We who love the Santa Fe Fuego did not need this negativity on the morning of the season opener. This is not about big-time sports. This is about a group of kids who are trying their very best to make something of their lives. This is about a group of dedicated volunteers who give their time and energy because they love baseball and especially the Fuego. This article was negative at best, and downright mean-spirited at most. Bo Brumble Santa Fe

At what cost?

To Mayor Javier Gonzales and city councilors: We are not supporters of the vehicular robotic speed trap surveillance monitors that used to be employed in Santa Fe (“City advisory committee greenlights speed cameras,” May 17). They are signs of Big Brother surveillance. That is why they sparked so much anger and outrage in the past. Why do you want to antagonize citizens again? How would you like one of those vehicles parked outside of your house? We suggest you find alternatives such as the flashing light speed limit signs already in use, which are effective. Please do not bring the negative symbols of surveillance and Big Brother back to the streets of Santa Fe. David Victor Lagasse
