The competition series begins its 12th season with a very significant change in host, as Tyra Banks succeeds Nick Cannon to introduce acts of all ages and all pursuits. In vying for the $1 million grand prize, they can be helped significantly along that path by the returning judges — Mel B, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel.
7 p.m. on TNT Animal Kingdom
When her boys were younger, Smurf (Ellen Barkin) ruled the roost in the Cody clan without much trouble, but now they’re challenging their matriarch at every turn. In “Eat What You Kill,” the Season 2 premiere, the boys blame Smurf when a risky heist fails, further testing their family bonds.
8 p.m. on FOX Prison Break
It isn’t over until it’s over, though this series supposedly ended before, and its revival’s finale doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be back again. “Behind the Eyes” sees Michael and Lincoln (Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell) continue the effort to keep Sara and Mike (Sarah Wayne Callies, Christian Michael Cooper) safe. Poseidon tries to stay ahead of them, and the showdown could mean casualties.
9 p.m. on NBC World of Dance
Jennifer Lopez has a good relationship with NBC through her police drama Shades of Blue, and it’s bound to get stronger with this new competition series, on which she’s an executive producer as well as a judge. Starting with “The Qualifiers I,” she, Ne-Yo, pictured, and Dancing With the Stars veteran Derek Hough weigh in on solo performers and teams who face rivals from different dance disciplines in pursuit of a $1 million grand prize.
11 p.m. on MTV Fear Factor
Ludacris serves as host for this reboot of the former hit reality series that preys on the most primal phobias of its contestants. In this new version, the players must confront fears common to members of Generation Z, chiefly inspired by urban legends, viral videos, scary movies and other pop culture.
