The past 100 years
From The Santa Fe New Mexican:
June 13, 1917: The Spanishspeaking people have a bright future in the Southwest in the opinion of speakers at the opening of the fourth annual meeting of the Permanent Interdenominational Council of Spanishspeaking work in the Southwest at the Methodist church here this morning.
The speakers on the future of the Spanish residents of the Southwest were Dr. Macleod, of Pueblo, and Drs. Bright and Heald of Albuquerque.
Dr. Macleod cited numerous special instances of SpanishAmerican’s ability and splendid loyalty and he said that in one little town in Colorado, the Spanish-speaking men volunteered three to one to the Anglo-Saxons when the president’s call to the colors was heard.
June 13 1967: Moises Morales, Canjilon, one of three men sought in connection with the June 5 raid on the Rio Arriba County Courthouse in Tierra Amarilla surrendered himself at mid-morning today at State Police in Espanola.
Capt. Martin Vigil, commander of the Espanola State Police district, said Morales walked into headquarters at 9:50 a.m. and surrendered to Vigil.
Morales was transferred almost immediately to the Santa Fe City Jail.
June 13, 1992: National Democratic Party leaders assembled in Santa Fe on Friday, like old dogs determined to learn new tricks.
The Democratic Party’s platform Drafting Committee convened at the Picacho Plaza Hotel to work on key planks expected to be adopted by the party’s Platform Committee.
The platform will then be presented for adoption by delegates to the National Democratic Convention next month in New York.
