Santa Fe New Mexican

And a merry solstice to all

-

Most messianic savior heroes, myths and stories feature men as the heroes. It is as if we have been programmed to expect a man to incarnate and save the individual, save the day and save the world. Slowly but surely, the tide has been turning the past 20 years in the movies and on TV with Thelma and Louise, The Fifth Element, V for Vendetta and Buffy, to name a few. These heroines have stepped up to the plate to reveal the archetype of the empowered woman.

But it was the Women’s March in Washington, D.C, Santa Fe and around the country and world that was the cosmic alarm clock that awakened the “sleeping goddess,” to challenge the unfairness and unawareness of the maledominated political, religious and left-brain educational systems.

This stirring has activated both women and men to face the 2,000-year-old Age of Belief’s left brain tunnel vision promoted by male-dominated societies that has left us feeling separate, not only from one another, but also from nature and ourselves, as well.

The triggering of this awakening was deepened for me when I saw the Wonder Woman movie, where our true heroine, on her [Joseph] Campbell-esque heroine’s journey, challenged the shadow, or the dark side of Ares, the god of war. This is a very important movie and an important symbol of change.

The women’s march was a symbol of this major change; Wonder Woman is a symbol; Kathy Griffin’s holding up a fake Donald Trump severed head is a symbol. These symbols reveal a struggle we all face, as we begin to move into a state of balance after 2,000 years in the misogynistic Age of Belief. The guide to help us with this transition will not be a man, but rather a goddess, manifesting as nature, before our eyes. It is called out in the song, “It’s nature’s way,” by the group, Spirit, and includes the lyrics, “It’s nature’s way of telling us something’s wrong.”

The digital world of ones and zeros is the left-brain prison of a world without feelings and intimacy, which tells us that the postcard picture of the Grand Canyon is really the Grand Canyon. It is not. Left-brain fixation, as taught in schools, leaves us with a feeling that something is missing. This sends each of us on a never-ending search through lifetimes to find and discover what it is that is missing.

The center point between the left and right brain, and between the in-breath and out-breath is not a static point — it is a dynamic balance. It is awakening, and is revealed to us throughout nature and with every sunrise and sunset, and can be seen and felt through the 13 new and full moon cycles every solar year. Just observe your breath, your in breath is cool and your out breath is warm and witness where they melt together.

The symbols of change and transformation are growing and being revealed in our lives, and nature is here to help guide us through these relatively unknown waters. The balance of nature’s guidance is already within us awaiting our reflection, meditation, and acceptance.

Are you ready? Go out to the rose garden in Harvey Cornell Rose Park or walk the Winsor Trail, or simply sit, close your eyes and observe your in breath and out breath and where they meet — all roads lead to Om.
