The past 100 years

From The Santa Fe New Mexican: June 29, 1917: “Dear Sir: In regard to the editorial, ‘Drying Versus Canning,’ in the New Mexican of June 27, I would like to say that the work I have been doing has been quite in line with all that is stated in this editorial, and that I have done by best to adapt my advice intelligently to actual conditions. I quite agree that the Anglo-Americans can learn much from the Spanish-Americans about drying, conservation and thrift, all of which I recognized from the start, being thoroughly familiar with the methods of the native population.”

June 29, 1967: In a statement which came a hair short of directly calling for impeachment of Gov. David F. Cargo, State Highway Commission Chairman John F. Sudderth suggested today that, “If there was ever a time in the history of New Mexico when Republicans, Democrats and Independents all should band together and demand that their legislators impeach a man, now is the time.”

Sudderth released the statement, which was read by Highway Dept. Information and Service Officer E.O. Montgomery, in reply to recent “unstable statements” by Cargo, “that we should bring honesty into the State Highway program.”

June 29, 1992: Santa Fe Community College is teaching students how to turn danger signs into dollar signs.

Through the new Hazardous Materials Management Program, students from across the state are studying how to work safely with hazardous materials and how to react when accidents involving them occur.
