Alice Sookying Cameron, July 1 James P. Chavez, 20, June 24 Dwight Capshaw, June 28 Phillip Santistevan

In the early morning hours of July 1, 2017, our beloved wife and mother, Alice Sookying Cameron, took flight from this earthly domain, the result of a devastating accident the previous evening.

Born Sook Ying Hew in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, to Father Hew Pin Yooi and Mother Siow Kwin Yin, Alice came to the United States in 1988 to attend college, firmly determined to gain proficiency in English and become a successful and ideal American citizen.

She attended Southeast Missouri State University, transferring to The University of Texas at Austin in 1989, where she met and fell in love with her future husband, James. Alice graduated with a degree in Risk Management Insurance in May, 1991, and married James in June of 1992.

After college, Alice was employed for a time at GPM Life in San Antonio, returning to school to complete requirements for a CPA, which she was awarded in 1995. She worked for several years at Texas Commerce Bank/Chase Bank, before leaving for a career at DataCert, Inc., where she rose from staff accountant to become Controller and Vice President of Global Accounting Services. Alice was recognized as a key resource in the preparation and positioning of the company for its successful sale.

In 2016, after the sale of DataCert, Alice moved to San Francisco-based Innovative Resources, Inc., to assume responsibilities as Controller and Vice President of Accounting. Tasked with quickly turning the company around from an accounting perspective, Alice led the company to stellar public audit results in the Spring of 2017, a success which gave her enormous personal and professional pride. Alice was employed by Innovative at the time of her passing.

Remembered for her great joy, strength of personality, her fealty, loyalty, and inspiration to friends, family, and colleagues, Alice’s sudden passing leaves those who knew her struggling to comprehend.

Surviving Alice, in addition to her parents, are her husband, James Albert Cameron, of Santa Fe, NM, and cherished daughter Audria Hew Cameron of Washington University St. Louis; brother Mike Hew and sister Sharon Hew of Seremban, Malaysia; brothers Jack Hew of Taipei, Taiwan, and Clifford Hew of San Antonio, TX. Alice is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom will forever cherish the hours of love, attention, and inspiration that she bestowed upon them.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 6, at Rivera Funeral Home, 417 Rodeo Rd, Santa Fe, NM. 87505. Cremation will follow at Rivera Family Funeral Home, 305 Calle Salazar Espanola, NM 87532.
