Youth Shelters and Family Services delivers life changing shelter and support to homeless, runaway and in-crisis youth. Our objective is for youth at risk for negative life outcomes to achieve safety and stability, which includes sustainable housing. Our organization provides support and shelter for youth ages 10-24 through five comprehensive programs and a focused initiative. All of our programs are client-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and grounded in positive youth development. Youth Emergency Shelter—A 24-hour safe haven for youth in crisis, ages 10-17, where they can sleep, tat three meals a day, and receive counseling. Our highly trained staff and master's-level therapists provide counseling and case management services while long-term housing is located for each youth. Youth can stay at the Shelter as long as ninety clays while trained staff make arrangements for long-term safe and stable housing. Transitional living Program—A supervised home and apartment setting for youth ages 17-24 while in school, job training, or working as they transition to independence. This program is specifically designed to address the needs of any homeless youth by serving a diverse population with a full range of services. Youth can live at TIP up to IS months. The average stay is six months. Street Outreach Program—Provides street-based critical services such as food. water. clothing, emergency aid supplies, tents, backpacks. sleeping bags and blankets to youth up to age 21. Pregnant and Parenting Youth Initiative—Provides safety, stability, and wellness for young families through access to pre. and post-natal care, housing, education, clothing, diapers, food and other resources as needed. Our programs meet basic needs for youth in our community. Based on our data and information from the Santa Fe Public Schools, we estimate as many as 100 youth in Santa Fe arc homeless each night. "lhey have no fixed address, couch surf, sleep in cars, or are in danger of losing their housing due to any number of factors. including abuse. That number includes young people who come here seeking help from surrounding counties, including Los Alamos and Rio Arriba. Youth homelessness almost always stems from severe and traumatic family disruption. The youth we serw are among the most vulnerable people in our society. A total of 1,206 homeless, runaway and in-crisis youth and family members were saved agency-wide last year, most from Santa Fe and Santa Fe County.
