The past 100 years

-

From The Santa Fe New Mexican: July 26, 1917: A group of progressive, aggressive, determined business men and citizens of Santa Fe are now engaged in soliciting funds to finance the city-building and boosting work of Santa Fe for the coming years.

July 26, 1967: The DeVargas Urban Renewal Project, which has been subject to both favorable and critical comments since its inception in 1965, goes before the public tonight at the regular semi-monthly meeting of the City Council. The hearing will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, where about 100 people can be seated.

Before the meeting is closed the council is expected to vote on the project which would turn 24 acres of land immediately southwest of the Plaza into a redeveloped, revitalized shopping and housing area.

July 26, 1992: If you belong to the New Mexico National Guard, you get a free license plate for your car whether or not you’ve been to war. If you’re an armed forces veteran you can get a special plate, too, but you might have to pay an extra $15 for the privilege.

So it goes with New Mexico’s complicated statutes on free or special license plates.
