Trump, the emperor who has no clothes

-

I remain baffled that anyone supports Donald Trump. He made campaign promises that he can’t or won’t keep, thanks in large part to the checks and balances our forefathers put in place or to the impracticality of his promises. So many of his promises reveal the disparity between what he said he will do and what he is able to do, evidence of his naiveté regarding how our political system works.

His promises are anathemas to me and to the majority of people in the United States, so it’s OK that they remain unfulfilled. Astoundingly, a majority of his minority base continues to have confidence in him. He has the lowest rating for his first 100 days going back to the early 1950s and President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

He, his base and those who work for him are delusional — they keep saying the emperor is wearing clothes, but the rest of us see him buck naked.

Listen to us

Clearly the Democratic Party has no idea what it is anymore; therefore no backbone to support standards it historically represented. Instead, it apparently prefers to pander to anyone for the sake of any vote. The Democratic Party is now willing to support candidates who oppose abortion (“Abortion divide roils Democrats,” Aug. 8). It has decided women are incapable of making decisions about their own bodies and their families solely because they are of the female gender? Do the Democrats believe the availability of and ability to choose safe abortions actually means forcing unwanted abortions on women? Have the Democrats decided human rights they formerly championed are now negotiable for votes?

Is this the Democrats “A Better Deal”? For whom? Certainly not for those of us who believed in what the Democrats used to stand for and support. You’re not listening. You’re not leading. You’re viewing the world from the back end of the telescope both in focus and time.

Reacting to racism

I read your article on the sad racist comment and photo comparison (“Community organizer sends racially charged image to online critic,” Aug. 3). Democratic U. S. Rep. Maxine Waters of California has fought for civil rights for several decades and community organizer Gloria Mendoza has the audacity to send such a racist comment and photo to disrespect her. This slap at Waters is partially designed to bring a smile on the faces of racist Americans. Mendoza should spend more time looking in the mirror at herself. We thank the editor and staff for bringing this to the public’s attention.
