From The Santa Fe New Mexican: Aug. 25, 1917: Ten thousand small brook trout from a Colorado hatchery will reach here this evening, and will be placed in the Santa Fe river in Santa Fe canyon, tomorrow by Adolph Fischer. The fish form part of a shipment of 100,000 that has been brought into the state by the Santa Fe railroad. Thirty thousand were unloaded today at Glorieta for the Pecos river, and distributions were made at Cimarron and Las Vegas.

Aug. 25, 1967: A den of “hippies” was arrested for possession of narcotics following a raid Thursday night on their home in Dixon, which netted over 200 six-foot tall marijuana plants and small amounts of what is believed to be heroin and LSD. Law enforcement officials of Santa Fe and Rio Arriba County made the raid at 8:30 p.m. Thursday aided by State Police.

They brought the haul to the state police headquarters in three cars this morning. Another 100 plants are still standing in the half-acre field and will be pulled today, State Police say. Police estimate the marijuana is worth over $100,000. Aug. 25, 1992: A case of plague has been confirmed in a squirrel living in an arroyo near Casa Solana, a west-side subdivision, the state Environment Department announced Monday. A plague-infected squirrel also was recently found in Galisteo, 25 miles south of Santa Fe.

The new cases are two more indicators that plague is on the upswing in Northern New Mexico this year, Pam Reynolds, an environmental scientist with the department, said.
