From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

Sept. 6, 1917: MORA — Sept. 4 — “What will you take for that ribbon?” said a friend to Peter Balland of Mora, who has recently returned from France.

“There are not enough millions in this country to buy that ribbon,” was the prompt reply.

The ribbon in question is a tiny, quiet-colored affair, which Pete wears in his button hole.

As the wearer explained, it has no value in itself, but it is proof that upon its owner has been bestowed the French war medal for distinguished bravery on the fighting front.

Mr. Balland also wears a second unostentatious ribbon, twined with the first.

He is modest about his exploits and not given to discussing war matters, but when urged he gave this history of his two insignia.

Sept. 6, 1967: Here is a fact sheet on the new publishing program which The New Mexican announced last Sunday.

It is suggested that readers study it carefully and clip it for future reference.

1. Beginning next Tuesday, Sept. 12, The New Mexican will be published as a morning and not as an afternoon newspaper.

This means it will go on sale early in the morning, that it will be delivered by breakfast time to the homes of Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Espanola, Taos and Las Vegas and that elsewhere in Northern New Mexico it will be delivered to mail subscribers before noon of the same day.

2. Current subscribers will receive their MORNING NEW MEXICAN automatically.

Sept. 6, 1992: Murder and rape suspect Daniel J. Martinez has told family members that the bullet that killed Santa Fe pharmacist Chester Radecki in the pre-dawn of Aug. 8 was fired by sheriff’s deputy Ron Barela as Martinez and Barela struggled for the deputy’s gun.

Meanwhile, Martinez has also told his family, someone else was assaulting the woman Martinez is accused of raping.
