This new six-part series reopens one of the most prominent cold cases of the social-media age as journalist Maggie Freleng tries to untangle a Gordian knot of false leads, eyewitness discrepanc­ies and other problems. On Feb. 9, 2004, witnesses told police they heard what sounded like a car crash and saw nursing student Maura Murray standing on the side of the road near her vehicle. When officers arrived on the scene, however, she had vanished.

In the new episode “A Connection Is Made,” Donna (Kerry Bishe, pictured) makes a play to land a seriously heavy hitter, while her ex, Gordon (Scoot McNairy), has a talk with one of their daughters about an issue at school. Joe (Lee Pace), meanwhile, sees a new side of Haley (Susanna Skaggs), and Cameron (Mackenzie Davis) discovers she has a new fan.

On a new episode featuring a lady known to many as the Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight reflects on her coming of age in the music business, which included the sometimes brutal reality of touring in the segregated South of the 1950s.

9 p.m. on HBO Movie: Assassin’s Creed

Based on a popular video game franchise, this 2016 sci-fi adventure saga got some brutal reviews, but still made a pot of money at the global box office, thanks to a good cast and impressive visuals. Michael Fassbender stars as Cal Lynch, descendant of a mysterious secret society known as the Assassins.
