Santa Fe New Mexican

The past 100 years

The Santa Fe New Mexican: Sept. 25, 1917: Although a week remains before October 1st, when annual rentals are due from all holders of leases on state lands, the state land office today was literally swamped under the incoming flood of checks, drafts and post office money orders with which the thousands of leasers are paying their annual rental to the state. All state land leases date from October 1, as do substantially all contracts to buy land from the state. As a result the greater part of the state’s income from its lands comes into the office immediately before and after that date. The rule of the state land office that all rentals and payments must be paid within thirty days from October 1st is rigidly enforced.

Sept. 25, 1992: During these times of continual change in our wonderful city, too often neighborhoods and neighborhood associations find themselves in a position of confrontation or complaint. Not so with this neighborhood association with regard to the recent Zozobra-Fiesta celebrations at the nearby Fort Marcy Park.

The preparation, planning and implementation of the plan on the celebration night, and the following cleanup were all superior in the opinion of this nearby neighborhood. All of the city and county management and the hard-working employees involved are to be highly complimented and thanked for a job very well done!
