7 p.m. on FOX Lethal Weapon

Picking up where its freshman-season stories left off, the series inspired by the popular buddy-cop movies starts Season 2 with “El Gringo Loco” — a title that pretty much describes Riggs (Clayne Crawford), who’s gone rogue in Mexico to seek ultimate vengeance against Tito Flores (guest star Danny Mora) for the death of Riggs’ wife. Murtaugh (Damon Wayans Sr.) trails him there, to prevent him from doing something he’ll regret ... but it may be too late.

7 p.m. on CBS NCIS

Gibbs and McGee (Mark Harmon, Sean Murray) must rely on their colleagues to save them from captors in Paraguay as the series resumes with its 15th-season premiere, “House Divided.” The earlier stages of the mission cause ongoing fallout for Vance and Torres (Rocky Carroll, Wilmer Valderrama), who must appear at a related congressional hearing. CHiPs veteran Robert Pine, father of actor Chris Pine, guest stars.

8 p.m. on FOX The Mick

The posh surroundings that Mickey (Kaitlin Olson) found herself in were a big part of this comedy’s initial stories, but her accommodations get a major downgrade as Season 2 opens with “The Hotel.” That describes where she now has to reside, along with her young charges, after their ample spending prompts the capping of their funds. Sabrina and Chip (Sofia Black-D’Elia, Thomas Barbusca) are determined to continue living well, though — as is Mickey.

8 p.m. on NBC This Is Us

One of television’s most discussed, most watched dramas begins its second season with “A Father’s Advice.” The 37th birthday of “The Big Three” marks turning points for that trio of siblings: Randall (Sterling K. Brown) mulls making a major change along with Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), Kate (Chrissy Metz) embarks on a new path, and Kevin (Justin Hartley) faces a work vs. personal life choice.

9 p.m. on NBC Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders

One of television’s longest-running franchises gets a new wrinkle, as executive producer Dick Wolf opts for a true story rather than fictionalizing headlines. Not unlike The People v. O.J. Simpson:

American Crime Story, this drama involves figures familiar to anyone who followed the case of two brothers (played by Gus Halper and Miles Gaston Villanueva) accused of killing their parents. Edie Falco, pictured, returns to series TV as defense attorney Leslie Abramson.
