OF “GHOSTED” ON FOX

-

“Ghosted” pairs you with Craig Robinson as a comedic duo. Had you envisioned working with him? We were both on NBC shows and we would meet at the parties, and the first time we met, Craig actually said, “Hey, we should do something together someday.” I was blown away that he knew who I was, but also that he would want to do something with me, because I was such a fan of his – and he’s someone that’s so funny and so deeply in control of what he’s doing. He is deeply funny. So, I always, always wanted to do something with Craig. We got to work on that movie (“Hot Tub Time Machine 2”), but this is where we’ve been able to really kind of expand on that and really develop this relationship on screen. It’s really been fun. How did you build the partnership between the two main characters? “Midnight Run” was a real touchstone for all of us when we were putting the whole thing together. That relationship in that movie was hilarious, to be sure, but it was also it had its moments of out-and-out drama or even moments where it was really moving. It was important to us to have those moments in the pilot for “Ghosted,” as well, where they really butt heads. Going off and doing something like “Big Little Lies” (in which Scott played Reese Witherspoon’s husband) was a great way to recharge batteries, to make sure that we had those moments in here so that the comedy and the sci-fi and everything would hopefully work even better. From the beginning, we were all kind of hoping that “Ghosted” ideally would be the baby of something like “Midnight Run” and “Stranger Things.”
