The past 100 years
From The Santa Fe New Mexican:
Oct. 3, 1917: The city council, at its regular meeting last night, listened to an hour’s discussion of proper and improper moving pictures and the demands of the American public in relation thereto, and ended up by naming a board of movie censors that will visit the Paris theater nightly for a period of two weeks, and at the end of that time report on the percentage of “good” and “bad” pictures shown, together with any recommendations deemed advisable.
Oct. 3, 1967: The property reappraisal program in Santa Fe County is virtually completed, but a hurdle still remains to be cleared regarding taxation of church-owned property, the county commission was told Monday night.
The Glorieta Baptist Assembly southeast of Santa Fe still has not permitted property appraisers access to the property, said Roberto Rubalcava, director of J.L. Jacobs & Co. appraising firm.
Oct. 3, 1992: The New Mexico Corporation Commission wants to begin regulating tow truck operators, tourist trolleys and other public carriers that operate within city limits.
The proposal is drawing opposition from representatives of Santa Fe wrecker services, who say the Corporation Commission does not have authority to regulate in-town services.
Robert Sena of Santa Fe, an attorney for several wrecker companies, said Friday that the proposal will put some companies out of business.
