Mario Alfredo Velasquez of Taos, New Mexico passed away Monday, October 16. Mario was born May 9, 1956 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Albert and Violetta Velasquez. Mario was one of eight sons and had one sister.

Mario was preceded in death by his wife Linda and his brother Armando.

Mario is survived by his two sons Daniel and William, his daughter Nina Saylor and his grandchild­ren Moses, Paul and Lorielie. Also surviving is his sister Monica and brothers Enrico (Roberta), Rolando (Mari), Diego (Ursula), Carlos (Cristina), Rey (Amanda) and Raoul.

Mario attended High School in Pecos, New Mexico. He served in the US Armed Services for two years and was in Germany during this time on a tour of duty.

Mario was sincere, good-natured and very creative. Mario was a very talented woodworker and would build beautiful furniture. He could take cedar logs and fashion beautiful pots. He would paint beautiful ceramic tiles. Mario loved to cook and would prepare some very delicious meals. A very special treat was the divinity he would prepare for Christmas.

Funeral services for Mario will be at San Antonio de Pecos Catholic Church Monday, October 30th. A Rosary will be at 10am and the funeral mass will be at 11am. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery following funeral services at 1:30pm.
