From The Santa Fe New Mexican: Nov. 7, 1917: Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Gillett today announced the marriage of their sister, Miss Leila Gallaher, early next week to First Lieutenant Luna Bergere, of the … machine gun battalion, Camp Kearny, Linda Vista, Calif. The wedding is to take place in San Diego, Calif. Miss Gallaher is leaving tomorrow for California … .

The bride is one of Santa Fe’s most attractive girls and is popular in social circles of this city and Albuquerque where she frequently visited. She has lived in Santa Fe over six years coming here from the middle west and has a host of friends who will miss her.

Lieutenant Bergere is the son of Alfred M. Bergere of Grant avenue, and is a graduate of the Santa Fe high school and New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell.

Nov. 7, 1967: State and county officials predict, as usual, a light turnout for today’s statewide election on eight proposed amendments to the New Mexico Constitution. Officials on all levels, however, urged all eligible voters to express their preference one way or another at the polls.

The proposed amendments have not stirred up public attention, the way live candidates do. But their importance in many ways is more long-lasting, ranging from economic development to property taxes, from discipline of judges to water rights trials.

Nov. 7, 1992: The city of Santa Fe has its hackles up over a plan by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter to take away part of the city’s animal control office for a spay-neuter clinic.

In a letter to the city, the shelter, a private agency, proposed that the animal control office stay put until after the clinic is added to see if the city liked its smaller place.

City Manager Ike Pino said Friday that he rejected the offer to stay.
