The sad and despicable lessons of President Donald Trump

- Ira Agins is a resident of Santa Fe.

President Donald Trump has been a really great role model in the short time he’s been in the White House. Here are 10 things I’ve learned from him that we can all use on a daily basis:

Lie at every opportunity. Lie so much that it becomes normal. Tell the same lies over and over — that’s how you get people to eventually believe that lies are the truth.

Take credit for anything good that happens, even if you had nothing to do with it. Everyone will think you are great.

Never admit you are wrong, even if it is obvious to a blind man that you are. If you admit it once, you will have to admit it every time. You never want start down that slippery slope.

Never let even the slightest disparaging remark or criticism go by unchallenged. It doesn’t matter if it is the pope or a grieving Gold Star family. Jump on them all with both feet. Call any such statements “fake news.”

Belittle your opponents and attack them personally. Come up with catchy nicknames for them, like “dishonest Hillary” or “Little Marco” or “Little Rocket Man.” Turn them into objects of derision. Everyone will think you’re as cleaver as you know you are.

Praise the very same people if it suits your needs. Yes, The New York Times can be “failing” or “fake news” in one breath and the greatest news source on the planet in the next if they happen to write something positive about you.

Wring every last dollar out of the presidency. Pay no attention to the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 9, Clause 8) — no one else does. Treat the Russians nicely — after all, Russian President Vladimir Putin got you elected and there is a lot of money to be made there down the road.

Insist upon absolute loyalty to you, but show no loyalty at all to anyone else.

Treat everyone unfairly, but complain loudly how unfair everyone is to poor little Donny.

Show the world that your words and actions do not carry consequences. Say whatever you want, do whatever you want — you are invincible.

These are lessons that all parents should teach their children if they want them to get ahead in today’s world.
