Police ID woman in I-25 crash
The Santa Fe Police Department has identified the woman charged with driving the wrong way on Interstate 25 on Friday as Larraine Leon, 70, of Albuquerque.
Police arrested Leon late Friday afternoon after she drove her black Mini Cooper northbound in the southbound lane, hitting several vehicles near the N.M. 599 intersection.
Police said Leon admitted drinking before the accident, in which a man traveling in another vehicle suffered a dislocated shoulder. No one else was hurt during the incident, which led police to shut down southbound Interstate 25 for about an hour.
Police booked Leon into the Santa Fe County jail Friday night but she was released shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, according to the jail’s website. She is being charged with driving while intoxicated, causing great bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident.
An online search of New Mexico court records does not reveal any other criminal or civil charges against Leon.
Lt. Sean Strahon of the Santa Fe Police Department said Sunday there was no other information on the case. Nor did he have an update on the injured man, who was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Strahon said Santa Fe Police arrested six people for DWI between Thursday — Thanksgiving Day — and 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
