Woman seeks help to better care for grandson
A 50-year-old Santa Fe woman says she currently is living on funds from the state’s General Assistance program for disabled adults.
She says she has been unable to work because of medical issues including anxiety, depression, PTSD, impaired vision due to a detached retina and cataracts, and osteoarthritis. She says she also is recovering from a recent surgery.
As a result, she says, she is having a financial crisis.
She cares for a 6-year-old grandson and would like help acquiring a small car so she can take him to school and have transportation for other activities.
She is among hundreds of area residents asking for help this season through the Empty Stocking Fund.
The Empty Stocking Fund is a project of The Santa Fe New Mexican. The Santa Fe Community Foundation, Los Alamos National Bank, The Salvation Army, Presbyterian Medical Services and The Life Link donate services to jointly administer the Empty Stocking Fund.
The newspaper will run stories featuring requests for assistance from local residents. The information from the initial application will be verified if the applicant is selected for assistance.
