Oscar winner Edmund Gwenn, pictured, stars as a Macy’s Santa who gets into trouble when he claims he’s the real Kris Kringle. With skeptics — including a little girl (Natalie Wood, also pictured) — ridiculing him at every turn, Kringle has no choice but to take his case to court. Only one young lawyer has enough faith to defend him. Maureen O’Hara and John Payne also star.

7 p.m. on ABC I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown!

Nothing can replace the classic

A Charlie Brown Christmas, but this animated special — first shown in 2003 — reunites the updated Peanuts gang with the yuletide season. Linus and Lucy’s little brother, ReRun, needs stress relief. He goes to Snoopy for attention and fun, but the canine has plans that don’t include the boy.

7 p.m. on BBCA Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

In the Season 2 finale, “Nice Jacket,” Dirk (Samuel Barnett) risks his freedom in order to fulfill the prophecy and restore order by returning to the corridors of Blackwing, where all the insanity began. Meanwhile, siblings Todd and Amanda Brotzman (Elijah Wood, Hannah Marks) find themselves in a terrifying confrontat­ion with the villainous (and certifiabl­y nuts) Suzie Boreton (Amanda Walsh, Curb Your Enthusiasm).
