Cancer patient seeks help to get set of wheels
A Santa Fe resident for 30 years says she is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer in Albuquerque and became homeless a few months ago when she left a bad relationship with a man who had “stolen, given away or taken advantage of me in my weakened state.”
She said she has been “fairly successful in my job search” but lacks her own transportation.
While she has found a car she can buy for $500, she is asking for help with the cost of acquiring and registering it as well as paying for insurance and fuel.
She is among hundreds of area residents seeking help through the Empty Stocking Fund.
The Empty Stocking Fund is a project of The Santa Fe New Mexican. The Santa Fe Community Foundation, Los Alamos National Bank, The Salvation Army, Presbyterian Medical Services and The Life Link donate services to jointly administer the Empty Stocking Fund.
The newspaper will run stories featuring requests for assistance from local residents. The information from the initial application will be verified if the applicant is selected for assistance.
