From The Santa Fe New Mexican: Jan. 11, 1918: WASHINGTON — Woman suffrage was a step nearer realization today as the result of the victory in the House last night when a resolution was adopted authorizing submission to the states of the Susan B. Anthony amendment for national enfranchisement of women. The vote was 274 to 136, exactly the required two-thirds majority. Republican Leader Mann and Representative Sims, both of whom came to the House from sick beds, brought the votes which settled the issue. So close was the contest that a recapitulation was asked and the announcement of the final vote was greeted with wild applause and cheering from the women who thronged the galleries.
Jan. 11, 1968: Alto Street soon will be short four buildings. City Council last night approved a request from the Building Inspector’s office to demolish buildings at 921, 922, 927 and 933 Alto. The four structures are the last of 32 deemed substandard last year. The council at that time approved recommendations which would either bring the structures up to accepted standards or see them demolished.

People are being permanently injured at five times that rate. The personal, family and societal tragedies mount; so does the dollar cost in funeral fees, in destroyed property.
