How would you describe your character of aspiring rock starturned-gym owner Joe Force?
There is an embarrassing part in everybody and everybody’s running away from that part and he soon realizes that the most embarrassing part of himself is what he’s best at, no matter how much he runs, which I think is something that everybody kind of deals with. You know, he wants to be cool so bad but he’s just not and I think that’s me in a lot of ways. (Laughs) So I really like that about my character.
How was it working with the veteran actress who plays your character’s mother, Jane Seymour?
complicated onion of a person. She’s like so sweet but she has all these weird eccentricities that you just peel them back and she brings all that to the Mom character, which I love . ... I did a small Hallmark movie with her like eight years ago and so we knew each other already. We have a bit of a mother/son relationship already so it really works great for the show. She really knows how to embarrass me and make me feel uncomfortable, which is great. (laughs)
Did doing all the aerobics for the show shape you up?
Honestly audiences, between the first and the last episode of Season 1, will see that I lose about 25 pounds. I dropped a lot of weight while we were shooting. I was No. 1 on the show so I was shooting all day and dancing and running around (so) I think it was good for me (laughs). And I don’t know how we’re going to incorporate that if we do another season but I may have to lose some of the weight I’ve gained back already. I get home and it’s the holidays – what am I supposed to do?
