Kelly Clarkson
They’re a competitive bunch. They are not helping me at all. I’ve known Blake (Shelton) and Adam (Levine) for over a decade, for different reasons. I’ve toured with Adam. My sign of love and endearment is if I give you s***. It’s kind of fun to watch, how we fight and just are completely trying so desperately to win these (aspiring singers) on our teams. It’s hilarious how much we grovel. Did those behind the upcoming revival of “American Idol” make a bid to have you on board their show instead? I’m not being egocentric, but I think just a lot of people reach out to me to be a part of singing things ...for obvious reasons, just because I was in the first one that everybody kind of watched. I love this show, and I’ve been trying to be a part of it. I couldn’t work because my pregnancies are horrible. It literally does come back to those blinds (blind auditions); that really separates everything. And it means something to me, because I think I represent those people in this industry. I don’t fit the pop-star image that maybe people expect all the time, but I am a pop star, and this is the image that I exude. And that’s why this show really does complement my desires for this industry. “The Voice” hasn’t yet yielded a music superstar on the level of Carrie Underwood or yourself. What are your thoughts on that? I guess I just don’t want to poo-poo on all the success that people have had. Like, “The Greatest Showman” – I was just at the (Golden) Globes, they were nominated, and a girl from “The Voice” (Loren Allred) is on that soundtrack singing the hell out of a song called “Never Enough.” There are people being recognized in different fields coming from the show.
