From The Santa Fe New Mexican: March 12, 1918: East Las Vegas, N.M., March 12 — There are about 1,000 persons interested in the cattle, horse and sheep industry in the city in attendance upon the annual Cattle and Horse Growers’ Association, which will convene this afternoon. Attendance is about double anticipated, with the result that sleeping accommodations are at a premium. There is not a room to be had at any of the hotels, and [nearly] every private home in the city and west Las Vegas has been thrown open to the visitors.

March 12, 1968: Mayor-elect George Gonzales, awaiting his first taste of municipal government at a city council meeting, says he’ll do his best “to be the best mayor Santa Fe has ever had.”

“The people placed their confidence in me,” Gonzales said. “I don’t intend to let them down.”

The new mayor said he wanted to make it clear immediately that “I’m not planning any mass firings at city hall. I don’t plan to replace anyone. “There will be no return to the spoils system in Santa Fe,” he said. March 12, 1993: The Santa Fe City Council has gotten involved in yet another lawsuit filed to protest a council decision.

Thirty-six residents of Valley Drive on the city’s north side sued the city in state District Court Thursday, seeking to restore Valley Drive to its original status as a cul-de-sac.

The suit also asks for an award of unspecified monetary damages because, residents say, property values have dropped since the city made their dead-end street a thoroughfare.
