What’s the plan?
Santa Fe Public Schools’ working draft of its updated five-year strategic plan includes six goals — or “pillars.” Each goal has a variety of targets and will be reviewed, discussed and ultimately approved by the five-member board of education sometime this spring. Those pillars, at a glance, are:
1. Create an environment that raises expectations and promotes high academic performance for every student
Key criteria include: Reading by first grade Alignment of instructional material Providing intense math training for teachers
Implementation of districtwide family math and science curriculum nights
2. Recruit, retain and recognize highly qualified personnel
Key criteria include: Assigning mentors to new hires
Evaluating salary, benefits and compensation to prioritize changes
Initiating exit surveys Redesigning the district’s morale survey
3. Engage families and community members in developing a culture of shared responsibility for success
Key criteria include:
Creating a customer satisfaction survey for community members
Creating and piloting Family Night engagement programs at schools
Conducting a volunteer-needs analysis to identify overlaps and gaps in volunteer services Finding ways to increase the number of school-site social media posts
4. Promoting a safe and respectful school environment
Key criteria include:
Conducting safety audits at each school site every year
Creating a report and analyzing the data regarding students who have committed acts or threats of violence
Working with student mentors to implement a positive behavior plan
Designing and renovating district buildings to meet the most recent safety and security design standards
5. Ensure sufficient and effective systems operations and technology infrastructure
Stewarding district finances to meet or exceed the state average for school districts with 7,500 to 17,500 students
Ensuring the district’s year-end cash balance is in alignment with the board’s desired amount
Meeting budget requirements and increasing transparency of budgets
Developing a new district digital plan with a new instructional strategy
6. Ensure all students posses attributes of a Santa Fe Public Schools’ graduate upon completing their studies
Developing a K-12 curriculum framework to define and address the “attributes of a graduate” by June 2019
Developing a board policy to systematize the implementation of the “attributes of a graduate” initiative
Developing a system for evaluating students at each grade level
