Education standouts
Claire Kendall of Santa Fe has been named to the Dean’s List at Purchase College for the fall 2017 semester. She is studying dance. Purchase College is part of the State University of New York network of 64 universities and colleges.
Virginia Padilla-Vigil, dean of New Mexico Highlands University’s School of Education, will lead the state’s Professional Practices and Standards Council that oversees teacher preparation in the state. The New Mexico Public Education Department appointed her as chairwoman of the council for a three-year term.
Santa Fe Community College student Karyn Dodier was selected for the New Mexico All-State Academic Team. Phi Theta Kappa and the New Mexico Independent Community College Association sponsor the recognition. She was honored during the recent legislative session at the state Capitol.
Dodier is a dual-credit student who attends The MASTERS Program, an early-college charter high school based at SFCC. This spring, she plans to receive an Associate in Applied Science in film directing and performance from SFCC, as well as a certificate in film production — one week before she graduates from high school.
She plans to transfer to the Seattle Film Institute after her SFCC graduation.
These Santa Fe students at Northeastern University in Boston have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2017 semester: Nicolas Tedori, who is majoring in computer engineering, and Zoe Unverferth, who is majoring in communications studies and theater.
The following local students have been named to the Dean’s List at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, for the fall 2017 semester: Priscila Guillen of Santa Fe is a 2016 graduate of Capital High School and Isabel Pearson Kramer of Santa Fe is a 2016 graduate of Desert Academy.
