From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

April 17, 1918: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bond and Mrs. C.H. Corlett, of Espanola, were visitors in the city yesterday.

H.J. Hammond, Jr., O.P. Easterwood and H.J. Hammond, all of Clayton, are here on legal business.

Attorney Pearce C. Rodry, of Albuquerque, arrived here today on legal business.

Corporal L.L. Loneoak, in charge of recruiting for the U.S. army and stationed at Las Vegas, was a visitor in the city yesterday to look over applications for admission to the army and navy. He returned to Las Vegas last night.

April 17, 1968: Both U.S. senators from New Mexico asked the full Senate Appropriations Committee this morning to increase appropriations for resource conversation in 1968 that would aid rural northern New Mexico.

Sen. Clinton P. Anderson and Sen. Joseph Montoya, both Democrats, asked for an increase from $6.4 million to $9.5 million for resource conservation and development programs, from $116 million to $130 million for conservation and from $56.4 million to $75 million for watershed operations and management.

April 17, 1993: Santa Fe resident Larry Branstetter said the emergencies he survived as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War probably helped him keep his head when a cargo plane he was flying recently lost an engine and part of a wing.

Branstetter is being hailed as the first person ever to safely land a 747 jet in such a condition.

But the way he sees it, he was just following standard procedures.
