Be like Jennifer
So much rancor in our national discourse. So much crudeness in entertainment; movies, music and television. So much unpleasantness in daily life, whether from angry drivers, grumpy people at the stores or customers who call in to yell first and talk later.
No wonder the loss of a woman like Jennifer Riordan of Albuquerque hurts so deeply.
The 43-year-old who died in a freak plane accident earlier this week has reminded us all what makes life worthwhile.
Most of us will not be as giving and compassionate as Jennifer. It’s not in us — but let us be inspired by her example and try.
A Wells Fargo executive, Jennifer had been a community leader for some 20 years, helping nonprofits manage their money, encouraging philanthropy and volunteering with a number of groups in Albuquerque.
We in Santa Fe knew Jennifer as well, since her work with nonprofits went beyond the Duke City. Most of all she was a friend, wife and mom of two children. The loss to New Mexico is immense.
Her family has put together a web page in her memory (caringcent.com/sparklejennifer).
The legacy they ask us to remember? Jennifer Riordan: Always be Kind, Loving, Caring & Sharing.
Those are words to live by. Jennifer did. So can we.
