From The Santa Fe New Mexican: April 26, 1918: Lindsey Instructs Sheriffs To Quell Growing Mob Spirit. Governor Appeals To Peace Officers To Preserve Law And Order In Counties Of State.

Governor Lindsey has sent a letter to each sheriff in New Mexico asking him to co-operate with the county council of defense for the preservation of law and order and see that mob spirit is held within check.

April 26, 1968: The chairman of the Santa Fe Development Committee today endorsed Urban Renewal Agency plans.

John A. Dillon Jr. said, “Further obstruction of the Urban Renewal program shows no constructive purpose.”

Urban Renewal intends to widen Sandoval Street into Hancock. The proposal brought strong opposition last week from the Old Santa Fe Association, which believes the projected widening is out of character and would threaten chances for a Ford Foundation grant to build a Living Museum.

April 26, 1993: WASHINGTON — Frustrated by the slow pace of Sunday’s gay rights march, the nearly 500 members of New Mexico’s contingent broke away from the official route and boldly marched up the middle of the National Mall through thousands of people.

Shouting, “Que viva gay New Mexico,” the group was led by an American Indian in ceremonial dress, and two people with AIDS in wheelchairs.
