WHY DOES A LIAR LIE?

Why does a liar lie? To aggrandize himself “I have the best memory in the world.”

“The largest inauguration crowd in history.” To manipulate “I know more than all the generals. Elect me.

ISIS will be gone very very quickly.” To divert blame “The people who were in charge of intelligence were hacks.”

“The Access Hollywood tape was doctored.”

He envies — usually someone who is superior to him.

“Obama was one of the worst presidents ever.”

“Obama was not born in the United States.”

“Obama was destroying the country. Only I can save it.”

To achieve his goal

“Ted Cruz’s father was part of a conspiracy to assassinate JFK.”

“After 9/11 thousands of Muslims in New Jersey were dancing and celebrating.”

“The tax code is terrible. It hurts the middle class and poor. I am the only one who can fix it.” To weaken opponents “James Comey begged me to let him keep his job.”

“Bob Mueller is biased. He can’t do this job.”

After years of lying, lying becomes a reflex. The liar lies without thinking about what he is saying, or about the consequences. He begins to believe his lies because he wishes they were true.

George Washington: “I cannot tell a lie.”

Richard Nixon: “I cannot tell the truth.”

Donald Trump: “I cannot tell the difference.”

He becomes unable to distinguish what is real from what is a lie. He becomes delusional. He is on the path to overt psychosis.

When a liar also is a narcissist, the following happens:

He surrounds himself with people who do not contradict him. (His staff shows him only poll results that favor him.)

He becomes enraged and seeks revenge toward people who do not agree with him. He destroys people closest to him. They must defend his lies even though they are aware that he lies. They lose self-respect. They lose part of their souls. With less opposition, his grandiosity increases. His mental function decreases.

When a narcissistic liar has great power, the world becomes a dangerous place. Our country is falling apart. We all are in grave danger.
