Jeopardizing my safety

-

Recently, I was camping and mostly out of cell range. As I’m riding in the car to our hiking trail, I get a blip of cell coverage and a text pops up from a friend. The text warns me that state Rep. Carl Trujillo has posted my name and cellphone number, encouraging his supporters to call me. I feel afraid. I feel afraid because I know that on May 2, he posted my name and suggested that I was somehow responsible for a victim coming forward to report that he had sexually harassed her. I feel afraid because his post also made clear that I advocate for Roe v. Wade, for keeping abortion access legal. Trujillo is endorsed by groups working to make abortion illegal. I feel afraid because threats against people working at abortion clinics have increased. I feel afraid because some of those threats turn in to violent acts. As of May 30, the Facebook post was still public, with my name and cell number. I realize in this day of digital everything that my cell number may be in public spaces, but I do not give it knowingly in ways that might jeopardize my safety. This post continues to jeopardize my safety. Julianna Koob

Albuquerque for change in New Mexico. Billy works to overcome widespread biases against women, the poor, rural communities and other underrepresented people. To improve lives and offer more opportunities to all we must be willing to challenge politics as usual. Garrett is the person to help a Democratic governor lead that change — and from an office that usually has little effect in state government. Try something refreshingly new this time. Depart from the usual routine of nominating another career politician who is seeking a temporary job until he can run for higher office. Vote for Garrett in the Democratic primary and help to make lieutenant governor an office that really matters. Jerry L. Rogers
