SAND PLAY SATURDAY: The Railyard Park Conservanc­y presents a free children’s program from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Aug. 11 at the Railyard Park Children’s Play Area, 740 Cerrillos Road. Play and Learn in the outdoor science classroom for toddlers — aka “the sandbox.” Toys, tools and equipment provided. SANTA FE RIVER CLEAN & GREEN: Local residents are banding together to tackle litter, thin overgrown willow and elm trees, and remove invasive species in the Santa Fe River from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will meet at either Alto Park to register for litter cleanup or Montaño Park to register for plant thinning at 10 a.m. Bring gloves and water, and wear sturdy shoes. The cleanup will last until noon. Snacks will be provided. For more informatio­n, call 505-820-1696. SHAKESPEAR­E ON THE RAIL: Passengers on the 704 northbound Rail Runner Express commuter train and the 705 southbound train will be treated to half-hour performanc­es from three of Shakespear­e’s plays: Midsummer Night’s Dream, Comedy of Errors and Romeo and Juliet. OPERATION KIDSAFE: A free child safety event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Henry Valencia car dealership in Española. Operation KidSafe captures a child’s picture and fingerprin­ts using a digital device. Parents will receive a printout for their records to give to police in the event of an investigat­ion. The records are not stored in a database.

FATHER’S DAY FLY FISHING: The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs is opening the Los Luceros Historic Property to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on several Sundays throughout the summer. The property, along the Rio Grande in Northern New Mexico near Alcalde, will host nature- and culture-based activities. The June 17 event, Healing on the Rio Grande, includes a tour of the chapel and Casa Grande and a presentati­on by Dr. Eliseo “Cheo” Torres on curanderis­mo. Casey Harthorn of the New Mexico Game and Fish Department also will offer a family fishing workshop along the river. Families can learn how to fish — equipment will be provided — as well as fish biology. Children under age 12 do not need a fishing license.
