Santa Fe police took a man into custody early Tuesday morning following an overnight SWAT incident that prompted a lockdown of Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and a shelter-in-place order in a south-side neighborhood.

Lt. Sean Strahon said police were called to a home on Vuelta de la Luz, just west of the Santa Fe Regional Airport, around 10:30 p.m. Monday on a report of domestic violence.

When officers arrived, a woman told them she had been battered by her boyfriend, Floyd Swydan, Strahon said. Swydan had been drinking, the woman told police. In addition to beating her, she alleged, Swydan had placed several handguns on his bed and threatened to shoot police and possibly shoot people at Christus St. Vincent.

Arturo Delgado, a spokesman for Christus St. Vincent, said the hospital went on lockdown for a few hours beginning around 10:30 p.m. Monday, based on information from police that there might be a credible threat.

The hospital lockdown was called off when police verified that Swydan was still inside the south-side home, Strahon said. Crisis negotiators with the police department tried to convince Swyden to come out of his home, Strahon said, but were unsuccessful.

The SWAT team was called out around the same time, Strahon said. Officers entered the home and arrested Swydan around 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, he said. Swydan was booked into the Santa Fe County jail, inmate logs show.

According to Strahon, he will face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a household member.
