Garden City again bests Fuego, 4-3

-

The Garden City Wind sure do love to play the Santa Fe Fuego.

The Wind are 0-14 against the rest of the Pecos League, but 4-2 when they face the Fuego. That included Tuesday’s 4-3 win at Clint Lightner Field. Santa Fe fell to 7-13 on the season.

The score was tied at 2-all when Garden City catcher Ryan Faircloth hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Wind added a run in the sixth on Cole Fenner’s solo blast in the sixth. In the ninth, the Fuego put together two walks and a single to load the bases with no outs, but only managed to score a run on Dan Pellinen’s sacrifice fly to left field to cut the margin to 4-3.

The loss ruined a strong pitching performance for Fuego starter Ismael Pena, who allowed just three earned runs on eight hits over eight innings and struck out nine batters. Santa Fe third baseman Ethan Estes was 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead the hitting attack.

The two teams play the third of four games at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
