Santa Fe police are investigating a 40-year-old woman’s report that she was carrying groceries home on the Acequia Trail on Monday evening when she was knocked unconscious, raped and robbed.

Lt. Marvin Paulk of the Santa Fe Police Department said the woman reported the rape Tuesday when she sought medical attention from a local clinic and received a sexual assault examination.

Paulk said the woman said she had gone to a grocery store on Monday night and was dropped off by a bus near the McDonald’s on St. Francis Drive near Cerrillos Road around 6:30 p.m.

She told police that after she started walking west on the Acequia Trail, which runs north of the New Mexico School for the Deaf, passing Oñate Place, and she stopped for a cigarette near a bench, Paulk said, and saw two men nearby.

The woman said she felt uncomfortable and started to gather her groceries and walk away, Paulk said.

“She suddenly felt a pain in her head and blacked out,” Paulk said, reading from a police report.

The woman told investigators that she woke up around 7:30 p.m. with pain in her legs, arms, back and pelvic area and a bump on her head. Her pants were down around her hips and she realized her groceries, her purse, her keys and her wallet were missing, Paulk said.

Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the report.
