Wake up, people — life (as we know it) is being destroyed

As I sat here at my desk, complacent, focused on an important project, it became startlingly clear that the form of my future, and certainly the futures of those much younger, is being etched into actions and policies by government leaders and agency heads.

The agenda, long pursued, is being so adroitly implemented. And, it appears that we continue on with our daily lives as if nothing is changing or that if changes are occurring, they will not affect our lives or the lives of our children. However, daily, rules and regulations that have been developed over decades for our protection are being eroded or eradicated altogether.

After persistent lobbying (and promises of future campaign support), corporations are being allowed to use chemicals in the growing of our food that were banned because they have been proven to be carcinogenic.

Coal-fired generating plants that were closed because of the toxins they spewed into the air are being reopened. Toxic materials are being allowed to be dumped into our streams. Fracking is fouling our drinking water. Children of families who came to our southern border seeking asylum from the violence in their home countries have been taken from their parents, and families are being deported back to conditions under which their very survival is at stake. And the litany of crimes being committed by the present administration is expanding every day. Our country as we have known it may disappear, while we sit, complacently.
