If you are planning for your child to use Santa Fe Public Schools’ bus transportation, your student’s eligibility will derive directly from how he or she is registered in PowerSchool. The only address that will be authorized for transportation services is the home address listed within PowerSchool. If this address is not correct, make sure you take all the steps necessary to get it corrected prior to school starting. Your child will not receive transportation services if he or she does not qualify based on your PowerSchool address.
You can check your student’s eligibility and his or her designated bus stop by logging onto the sfps.info website and looking under the Transportation Department tab for the bus route search any time after Aug. 1.
If your student has special needs and qualifies for transportation as a related service, please check with the Special Education Department for the registration process, as it has not changed. If your student is in the pre-K program, notify your school if he/she will be using transportation when you complete registration, and you will receive a call from the Transportation Department regarding your child’s route information. Charter school students will still utilize the hub services, which can be viewed online.
Every student waiting at a bus stop in the morning on the first two weeks of school will receive transportation. Once the student is at school, he or she will receive a bus card to board the bus for the afternoon trip. This card will contain your student’s name, address, route number and bus stop times. All your student has to do is take this card to their designated bus and he or she will be good to ride for the remainder of the year as long as there is no change to your home address. If your student does not receive a card, he or she will not be allowed to ride the bus until a card is generated and received; this in turn means he/she will be directed back to the school office, and you or your adult designee will need to pick them up until he/she is properly registered in PowerSchool and a bus card can be generated.
Does my child qualify to ride the bus? Does qualify:
My child is in elementary school and I live farther than 1 mile from the school or in a hazardous walk area.
My child is in middle school and I live farther than 1.5 miles from the school or in a hazardous walk area.
My child is in high school and I live farther than 2 miles from the school or in a hazardous walk area.
My child has an IEP that states he/ she has authorized transportation (Please contact Special Education Office prior to registering child). Does not qualify:
My child is in elementary school and I live within 1 mile of the school and there is no hazardous walk area.
My child is in middle school and I live within 1.5 miles of the school and there is no hazardous walk area.
My child is in high school and I live within 2 miles of the school and there is no hazardous walk area.
Inter-Zone transfers not authorized transportation.
Please check with your school’s secretary for the walk boundaries and the hazardous walk areas.
Student responsibilities and bus safety rules
Student transportation is a privilege extended to students who qualify for transportation pursuant to state statutes and local district policy. Students are subject to the jurisdiction of school authorities while using the school transportation system, and shall at all times exhibit appropriate behavior in accordance with codes of conduct and the disciplinary policies, procedures or regulations adopted by the school board. Students who do not obey the state and local regulations governing student transportation may have their transportation privileges revoked by the school district. This also applies to transporting to and from school and field trips.
Students must learn and obey the safety rules and responsibilities and use appropriate behavior while on the school bus and at the bus stop.
Students must be at their regular bus stop at least five minutes prior to the scheduled stop time. The bus driver will not wait for students not at the loading area or making an effort to reach the bus.
Students must wait in a safe place, clear of traffic and away from where the bus stops. Students must maintain safe and appropriate behavior when waiting for and boarding the bus.
Students must obey the driver promptly. The driver/attendant is in full charge of students while they are on the bus.
Students must remain seated while the bus is in motion and keep aisles and exits clear.
Students must occupy the seats assigned them by the bus driver/attendant.
Students are not permitted in the driver’s compartment or tamper with equipment while the bus is in motion.
Students cannot use profane language or obscene gestures while on the bus.
Students cannot eat or drink on the bus. Students shall cooperate with the bus driver in keeping the bus clean.
Students cannot open or close the bus windows without the permission of the bus driver/attendant.
Students must not extend their hands, arms, heads, or objects through bus windows.
Students must not throw any item inside or outside the bus while boarding, riding or leaving the bus.
Firearms, knives, explosives, breakable glass or other dangerous objects are not permitted on the bus. Animals, except those animals authorized by an IEP or 504 Accommodation Plan, are not permitted on the bus.
The use, possession or distribution of tobacco, drugs, alcohol or other controlled
substances is prohibited on the bus.
Students and parents/guardians will be held responsible for destruction to the bus, bus stop location and/or private property.
Students should not run after the bus at stops or school sites.

Si planea que su hijo/a use el transporte en autobús de SFPS, la elegibilidad de su estudiante se derivará directamente de la forma en que esté registrado en PowerSchool. La ÚNICA dirección que se autorizará para los servicios de transporte es la dirección de la casa que figura en PowerSchool. Si esta dirección no está correcta, asegúrese de tomar todos los pasos necesarios para corregirla antes de comenzar la escuela. Su hijo/a no recibirá servicios de transporte si no califica según su dirección en PowerSchool.

No califica:

Responsabilidades del estudiante y reglas de seguridad del autobús

Los estudiantes deben permanecer sentados mientras el autobús está en movimiento y mantener despejados los pasillos y las salidas.
Los estudiantes deben ocupar los asientos que les asignó el conductor/asistente del autobús.
Los estudiantes no están permitidos en el compartimiento del conductor o alterar material del autobús mientras el autobús está en movimiento.
Los estudiantes no pueden usar lenguaje profano o gestos obscenos mientras están en el autobús.
Los estudiantes no pueden comer ni beber en el autobús. Los estudiantes deberán cooperar con el conductor del autobús para mantener limpio el autobús.
Los estudiantes no pueden abrir o cerrar las ventanas del autobús sin el permiso del conductor/asistente del autobús.
Los estudiantes no deben extender sus manos, brazos, cabezas u objetos a través de las ventanas del autobús.
Los estudiantes no deben arrojar ningún artículo dentro o fuera del autobús mientras suben, viajan o se bajan del autobús.
Armas de fuego, cuchillos, explosivos, vidrios rotos u otros objetos peligrosos no están permitidos en el autobús. Los animales, excepto los animales autorizados por un IEP o 504 Accommodation Plan, no están permitidos en el autobús.
El uso, posesión o distribución de tabaco, drogas, alcohol u otras sustancias controladas está prohibido en el autobús.
Los estudiantes y padres/tutores serán responsables de la destrucción del autobús, la ubicación de la parada y/o la propiedad privada.
Los Estudiantes no corran detrás del autobùs en las paradas o en los sitios escolares.
