2017 record: *0-8 overall, 0-2 in District 1-2A.* Forfeited last three games of season. Head coach: Daniel Gallegos (first year) Key players: Daniel Mandonado, senior, 5-foot6, 135 pounds, WR/QB/DB; Derek Vialpando, senior, 5-7, 140, WR/DE; Slade Wilson, senior, 5-4, 1500; DE/LB. Outlook: The question is if Questa gets onto the football field, not when. Inconsistent appearances from prospective players is of great concern. The good news is that the Wildcats won’t see the football field until Sept. 8 against Raton, so it gives Gallegos time to roam the hallways to find players. Mandonado and Vialpando demonstrate strong leadership, having been consistent presences at practice, but they also will be crucial to the recruiting process. Questa certainly won’t harbor illusions of beating Escalante, but it is in a district that fits a program trying to build a stable foundation. First priority, though, is to sell the student body on that idea.
